Our big, caring, family.
We are a Christian orphanage located in Kisii, Kenya, where we provide a safe and loving environment for 36 children who have been orphaned or abandoned. Our journey began in 2016, and since then, we have witnessed growth in both the number of children under our care and the development of our facilities.
Welcoming Message
“Hello and welcome to the Pillars of Hope website! We are a 503c charitable organization that supports an orphanage in western Kenya. The orphanage was a dream of pastor George Oyaro and his wife Maureen, both of whom found themselves without family earlier in their lives. The original thought was to provide an orphanage for girls since there are fewer such opportunities for girls than boys in Kenya. Then we started having siblings show up who needed help and we simply couldn’t turn away a brother after accepting his sister. As a result we now have a mix of both boys and girls. Some of these children did not even have clothes when they arrived and many had been victimized prior to arrival due to their vulnerable state. One boy was already infected with HIV. As news of the new orphanage spread, kids would show up before we were even ready to accept them. The building was incomplete and we were not adequately stocked with beds or other needed items. Growth was rapid and we scrambled to assemble all of the necessary items and hire enough staff to meet the needs of the children.
It was from that humble beginning that we have now become a thriving place where kids are having all of their needs addressed. Not only are they clothed and fed, but they also now have health care and educational needs met. The feedback we get from their teachers is that our kids are their best students. We are now fully staffed and we have a perimeter security wall, a well with fresh water, a solar system to provide power, as well as a refrigerator, freezer, and oven. It was support from people like yourselves that has allowed all of the transition to occur. When I was last at the orphanage I met these children and they were amazing! I am so proud of them. I feel deep satisfaction every time I think about them.
